DCO is Defence’s highly respected family support organisation whose services are sought after by Commanders, ADF personnel and their families.

Supporting the Defence Community
The DCO provides a comprehensive range of social work, military and family liaison, educational liaison support services and related programs, including projects and research,that enhance the well-being of Australian Defence Force personnel, their families and communities. The key areas in which DCO staff work with families are:

Information on local services and facilities
Advice on schools and education issues
Employment for spouses
Child care
Emergency support in crises
Health concerns
Family Relationships
Lack of family or friends to provide support

The DCO has also developed an Internet Home Page and Bulletin Board Service and information on National programs for example Child care, Dependants with special needs and Spouse employment program are explained in detail at (www.defence.gov.au/dco). More information is available through the Family Liaison Officer on (07) 4053 9300.

Timings:

The DCO Cairns office is located at 3 Jensen Street, Manunda and staff can be contacted during office hours (0830 – 1700 Monday to Friday) on telephone 07 4053 9300, fax 07 4032 1340 or email dco.cairns@defence.gov.au. In the event of an emergency after hours contact should be made with NWCC 1800 801 026 and ask for the Duty Cairns Social Worker.
