The Defence Community Recreation Centre (DCRC) is located at 3 Jensen Street, Manoora (Cairns), opposite the Edge Hill Tavern and next to Network Video off Pease Street – located in the same building as the Defence Community Organisation (DCO).

The DCRC is a Defence supported facility aimed at providing activities and events which build social supports to assist Defence families in meeting the challenges of service life.

DCRC believes in:

• Supporting families and building resilience.
• Developing partnerships with the Defence and wider Cairns community.
• Helping to reduce the impact of mobility.
• Helping to overcome the challenges of a military lifestyle.

DCRC is a venue for many different activites. These include Bellies & Bubs, Tuesday Craft & Chat, Cairns Coral Kids Playgroup, various training opportunities eg. First Aid, Triple P Parenting Program as well as social events.

DCO staff regularly use the Centre to facilitate information sessions throughout the year on topics such as: thriving as a Defence family member whilst meeting the challenges of mobility and separation and parenting. DCRC hold programs such as: personal development and fitness, craft workshops.

Notice boards are in the foyer of the centre and are regularly updated with upcoming events and information about all the groups using the Centre. Please feel free to come in and have a look at what we have to offer.

The DCRC also produces a monthly newsletter – Tropic Topics (click here to go to newsletter tab) which provides information on Defence community issues, DCRC events and services and local information such as cyclone preparation, tropical health and school holiday activities.”

Annual events such as Ladies Dinner, Trivia and Pamper nights, Kids Disco and Halloween parties are becoming legendary and are a great way to meet up with old friends or make invaluable new ones.

To ensure the continued provision of services and support, we host several fundraising events a year. These range from Bunnings BBQ’s, to raffles, sales of Entertainment Books and Golf Tournaments; and we would love to have your support and contributions.
